I come with a quick and brief reminder that came to me as I did my devotion today. I read from Ephesians 6:10-12.
As I was reading, it hit me how many times I have felt totally unequipped to fight battles thrown at me, felt helpless and defeated, felt like God is not fighting for me. And worse still, how many times I have fought battles my way; how I have planned, prepared, strategized and even executed my plan in fighting battles I was supposed to be fighting God’s way. We Christians know that a battle that is to be fought God’s way will not be defeated when fought our own way. And because of this, frustration and desperation sets in, and that’s when the devil jumps right in to do the most and win the battle. I’ve been here before and from time to time, I still get here. If you do too, you are one among many Christians who find themselves in this situation sometimes.
However, not to worry, because our always loving and gracious God has instructed us on what we need to be equipped to fight our battles His way.
The first thing this scripture reminded me about is that all of life is spiritual, including the battles life throws at us, however trivial they seem sometimes.
We are not fighting physical battles even when they seem like they are. We fight against principalities and powers, and so we need to stop approaching battles with the mindset of one fighting with physical forces. God is calling us to be able to discern the spiritual forces behind the seemingly physical problem and be better equipped to fight His way.
So, how are we to be equipped?
We are to be equipped by putting on the full armour of God, which is (as in the Amplified Bible);
- The belt of truth.
- The breastplate of integrity, moral rectitude and right standing with God.
- The shield of faith.
- Feet shod in preparation (stability, promptness, readiness) of the Gospel of Peace.
- The helmet of salvation
- The sword of the spirit which is the word of God.
My big reminder for today was, the spiritual forces are not sleeping or playing. All around us, battles are taking place whether we realise it or not, and daily we are to ensure that we are draped in the full armour of God so as to be better equipped to fight our battles His way.
May God give us grace and discipline to wear the His armour everyday so that we are better equipped to fight our battles.
I hope you are well.
